From Trailguru
Once you have created a route, the next step is to add textual information to the description to help others follow it or edit the route to add or remove segments from it.
Editing Route Text
Editing the descriptive wiki text for a Route is done in the same manner as any Wiki page -- you can just press the edit tab at the top of the page and edit away like any wiki page.
Editing Route Navigation
There are a few basic principles to editing routes on Trailguru. First off, it is easiest to create your route from start to finish. The editor works by automatically connecting up the last waypoint or trail segment specified with one that you just created and for this reason, it is easier to add from start to finish.
You can add to a route in one of three ways:
- You can simply click the map itself. Trailguru will automatically place a waypoint here and use the road routing information that it has to attempt to build an automatic route to this point.
- You can click a Trailguru trail segment and add it to the route. If you are zoomed in enough on the map and have turned on activities in the legend below, Trailguru will display the trail segments it has in its database as thicker and bolder lines that you can click to add. Trailguru will then automatically add this trail segment in the most logical manner to your route.
- You can enter an address or latitude/longitude into the waypoint text box and press the "waypoint" button. This will look up your search text and create a waypoint on the map at that location. If the location is not quite correct, you can fine tune this by just dragging and dropping the marker to the right spot.
As you do this, you'll note that Trailguru automatically keeps track of the distance of your route so you can adjust it as necessary to fit how much you would like to do.
When you are happy with the route, it is important to remember to save it by pressing "Save" as your route is not saved until you do this. Once saved, you can then revert back to the last saved version by pressing "Revert". Saving your route also triggers Trailguru to compute the estimated timing for your route for all the different types of activities and also start building an elevation profile for areas where it has elevation information.
You can also delete elements from a route. To do this, right click the waypoint marker directly AFTER the section you would like to delete. This will delete this section, and if this section is in the middle of a route, Trailguru will attempt to connect the two routes using automatic routing.
For automatic routing sections, you can split and insert a waypoint by simply clicking on the blue routing line. This is typically used when you are planning a route over roads using waypoints and the automatic routing is taking you over a route that you don't want. You can fine tune the route by inserting intermediary waypoints and dragging these onto the roads that you do want as hints.
Finally, if you have a route that you are happy with but want to make a variant of it (say, to create a shorter or longer version of it), clicking "Clone" allows you to create a duplicate of that route under a different name.
