From Trailguru
In Trailguru, uploading files is generally used for two types of media: images and GPS track files. GPS track files (accepted by Trailguruin GPX: GPS eXchange Format) are normally uploaded in order to share route and waypoint information within an article with other users.
Before you upload an image or GPS track file, make sure that either:
- You own the rights to the work
- You can prove that the copyright holder has given you the right to redistribute the work.
- You can prove that the work is in the public domain.
- You believe, and state, a fair use rationale for the specific use of the image that you intend.
Always note the work's copyright status on the image description page and provide specific details about the work's origin. The recommended image summary contains some or all of the following:
Description: The subject of the image
Source: The copyright holder of the image or URL of the web page the image came from
Date: Date the image was created. The more exact, the better
Location: Where the image was created. The more exact, the better
Author: The image creator, especially if different from the copyright holder
Permission: Who or what law or policy gives permission to license Trailguru to use this work within the project.
Other versions of this file: Directs users to derivatives of the image if they exist on Trailguru
For example:
- Mount Whitney at sunset, copyright 2003 [[User:Tpark|Tim Park]]
- Map of Yosemite, 1998 US Geographical Survey, public domain {{PD}}
- Alconocales, copyright 1971 Ron Thiede, uploaded with his permission
To upload a file, click upload a file in the toolbox section of the sidebar to the left. Then, from this upload page:
- Enter the folder and name of the file on your computer, in the box marked Source filename. It is usually easiest to use the Browse button to choose a file using the explorer so that you don't have to type the full path by hand.
- In the box for the Destination filename, type a name (no spaces please) that's descriptive (e.g. Alpe_DHuez.jpg or Mount_Everest.jpg). Files that do not have a descriptive filename will run the risk of being deleted.
- In the Summary box, put basic info about what the file is and where the file came from. Please make sure you read our copyright policy before submitting.
